Vom Innenministerium fälschlicherweise für tot erklärt, muss sich Zenzile ihrer Vergangenheit als eine der gefürchtetsten Auftragskillerinnen der Gegnerpartei Nelson Mandelas stellen. Mittlerweile über sechzig und Grossmutter, erinnert sie sich an die unglaublichen Ereignisse, die sie bisher verdrängt hatte. Regisseur Neil Coppen und Schauspielerin Mpume Mthombeni verweben Zulu-Mythologie und magischen Realismus mit Südafrikas Vergangenheit zu einem aufwühlenden Theaterthriller.
«Isidlamlilo» basiert auf Lebensgeschichten von Frauen der KwaZulu-Natal Provinz, die im Rahmen eines Oral History Projekts gesammelt wurden.

Widerstand! Theater in Zeiten bedrohter Demokratie
Im Rahmen des Kontextprogramms «Widerstand! Theater in Zeiten bedrohter Demokratie» bietet das SHT einen Workshop mit den Mitbegründer*innen von Empatheatre Neil Coppen und Mpume Mthombeni an.
Der Workshop richtet sich an professionelle Kulturschaffende, ist kostenlos und findet am Donnerstag, 13. Februar 2025 um 18:00 im SHT statt.

Falsely declared dead by the Home Affairs’ decrepit system, Zenzile is forced to confront her past as one of the most feared assasins of Nelson Mandela’s opposing party. Now over sixty and a grandmother, she recalls the unbelievable series of events that have unfolded across her lifetime. Director Neil Coppen and actress Mpume Mthombeni interweave Zulu mythology and magical realism with South Africa’s past to create a stirring theatrical thriller.
«Isidlamlilo» is inspired by the lives of real women of the KwaZulu-Natal province.

As part of the context programme «Widerstand! Theater in Zeiten bedrohter Demokratie», SHT is offering a workshop for professionals with the co-founders of Empatheatre, Neil Coppen and Mpume Mthombeni.
The workshop is free of charge and will take place on Thursday, 13 February 2025 at 18:00 at SHT.
